So…you’ve decided to upgrade the comfort of your home with an affordable, energy-saving ductless mini-split system. Great idea! Now, all you need is a trusted source to help you get the best system – the best value – for your home.
At D-Air Conditioning, we’ve installed thousands of ductless mini-splits for thousands of satisfied customers here in California. And to help you choose your new mini-split system wisely, we’re going to share our recommendations for the top-three high-wall, multi-zone ductless mini-split systems. (When you’ve installed as many systems as we have – with the best installation and service in the State – you know the best units to recommend for years of reliable, trouble-free heating and cooling comfort.)
Our selection criteria are based on several factors including: ONE – reliability; TWO – features; THREE – aesthetics, and FOUR – customer feedback.
We’ll start with our number-one pick, the Mitsubishi MSZ-FS.
#1 Mitsubishi MSZ-FS
It’s no surprise that the Mitsubishi MSZ-FS takes the top spot on our list. This stylish, reliable mini-split packs a big punch in terms of features. The system is super-efficient – with up to thirty SEER of performance. It has the best-in-class I-see sensor – which can detect your location in the room and deliver targeted heating and cooling. It has an amazing air filtration system that uses a nano-platinum filter – plus, an anti-allergy enzyme filter as well. Overall, this is THE best performing system in terms of specifications. (And…our customers tell us all the time how much they ‘love’ their Mitsubishi systems!)
Keep in mind, this system is a ‘luxury product.’ The Mitsubishi MSZ-FS is the ‘Rolls Royce’ in terms of performance…and price. But if you’re planning on using your system for the long term, this is a great investment!
(On the other hand – if you’re looking to rent-out your place? Well, you’ll probably want to consider some ‘more affordable’ options – with fewer ‘bells and whistles.’)
Number two on our list of the best mini-split systems? The Daikin Emura.
#2 Daikin Emura
Daikin’s Emura is a sleek, stylish design that’s considered to be one of the best-looking high-wall mini-splits on the market. This innovative system opens by lifting the front panel up – one of the more unique features of its design. Similar to the Mitsubishi system, this unit has an intelligent eye sensor which detects heat and cool signatures in your room – and can deliver precise comfort wherever you are. The Daikin Emura has an efficiency of eighteen SEER – and has a Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic Air Purifying Filter. Impressive!
Oh…and Daikin is the number-one manufacturer of air conditioners in the world. In the air conditioning business, they’re incredibly well-regarded for their high performance, great reliability, and long-lasting durability. If the Mitsubishi is the ‘Rolls Royce’ of mini-splits – the Daikin is the ‘Toyota’ of this market – affordable and reliable – so you really can't go wrong with choosing a Daikin.
Rounding-out our top-three best mini-split systems is the Fujitsu Halcyon™ ASU.
#3 Fujitsu Halcyon™ ASU
If you like the idea of keeping things simple, you’ll appreciate that the Fujitsu ASU is our recommendation for a no-frills, reliable HVAC system that gets the job done! These systems have fewer bells and whistles than the Mitsubishi MSZ-FS or the Daikin Emura – but make up for it in sheer simplicity and reliability. As one of the leading manufacturers of computer components and medical devices, Fujitsu has turned their expertise to developing a multi-zone system that is both functional and distinct in its looks. The angled sides make for a sleek, modern aesthetic.
Because it’s based on a simpler design than the Mitsubishi or Daikin, you’ll also find that the Fujitsu ASU is less expensive than the others. If you’re looking for a reasonably-priced system that just plain works – and you’re looking for a system that only heats and cools – this is your option!
Finally, like in any good competition, we’re awarding an ‘Honorable Mention’ – this one, to the Daikin CIRRA.
Honorable mention - Daikin CIRRA
One of the most surprising heating and air conditioning announcements in 2021 came from Daikin – when they announced their new, super-simple and super-affordable Daikin CIRRA line of mini-splits. These systems are much more affordable than the Emura – while boasting similar efficiency ratings.
Now, nothing’s perfect. And the one quirk about this system is that it is currently available only as a dual-zone system – where you can use a combination of 7k, 9k, or 12k indoor heads. As a specially-designed system, the condenser is much slimmer and more compact than comparable two-zone condensers. A real plus!
Our insider opinion? At D-Air, we believe that the CIRRA has a lot of potential – and is a great product. Although it is only available in two zones, we hope that in the future, Daikin will release a three-zone solution as well. (Still, the two-zone system is a winner – because it’s suitable for most any ADU application. Or…even a ‘tiny home,’ (one of the fastest-growing market segments for ductless mini-splits)!
